A taste of home

Postby Henry Nyles » Thu May 18, 2006 4:15 am

Henry runs his fingers along the sleeve of his pressed, black silk tuxedo, then a quick adjust on his platinum cufflinks as he glances about the massive dining hall of his parents estate. He nods and smiles at the guests as they make their way to their chairs for the elegant meal. The servants bring out a hudson valley foie gras sauté, and a braised veal cannelloni accented with artichoke sauté, carrot vichyssoise, and a horseradish froth for the first course. A family label Chianti is served to compliment the flavors of the food. Henry watches his mother and father play host to the who's who of the rich and famous, as they solicit donations for their advanced species hospital facility. The Charles Franklin Nyles Multi-species Medical Facilty will definetly benefit this night.

The main entree' is brought out. Butter-poached Maine Lobster, with baby morels, spring peas, truffled champagne cream, and Cous Cous. For variety a pan seared Alaskan halibut, with lobster ravioli, butternut squash, salad of fennel, and orange, grapefruit and kalamata olives. Another family label wine, a Chablis, is the wine to compliment the main course. The meal is a resounding success, the guests are escorted to the Italian garden area for cigars and small talk. Henry takes advantage of the herding of the overstuffed, high society, and disappears in the 250 room, 65 fireplace mansion.

Making his way to his room. Henry takes off his jacket and places it on the replicated wooden hanger, then hangs it up. He sits heavily at the desk in his room and ponders his situation aboard the Phoenix. The XO is dedicated to making his life a living hell, the other members of his team don't trust him, he wonders if it's all worth it. It was no easy task to plead to the Captain for a pass to make his parents dinner function, certain of the fact that he is somehow under observation. Then his fathers words ring in his ears..."If you cannot fail, you cannot succeed!" Nyles grins to himself as he checks the chrono to see how many hours he has left until he has to report back to the ship. He finds his strength renewed, having visited his family. He resolves to continue his service to StarFleet and let NO ONE disuade him from his commitment!

Grabbing his jacket as he stands, Nyles exits his room and makes his way back to the guests. He puts on his best smile, grabs a glass of Petit Verdot, then continues to entertain the masses. Mostly for the sake of break throughs in interspecies medicine....mostly.
