Edie Britt didn’t understand female relationships. Why should she when understanding men was so much more fun?
Given this, Edie should not understand Bree and Lynette. She should not be able to grasp how they could spend hours chatting (and flirting) over endless coffee or the warmth (and love) gained from shared hugs. She should not be able to comprehend the surreptitious glances, occasional wandering hands and secret, playful smiles of Bree and Lynette’s relationship.
Yet Edie Britt knew exactly what was going on. She may not understand female relationships. However, she recognised sex clearly when she saw it.
